The Scribbling Writer Reads (SW Reads)

The ScribblingWriterReads.png

Like you, I read a lot of books. Sadly, sometimes I get stuck and can not find my next read! I created this book club to help myself and others out there to find the next great read. In addition to reading,  I’d love for us to bounce ideas off each other. Either to complain about a book or talk further in depth. I want to enjoy ANY book, new releases or old favorites. (Yes, anyone can suggest a book, and Yes, even “Twilight” is allowed).

We can chit chat anyway you want. (Private email or bashing it out in the comments).

All books suggested will be posted here for others, links to Amazon or Barnes and Nobel will be included.

So, grab your next read, warm drink of your choosing, a cozy blanket and settle in!

Cause I am a barrel of fun this month I am reading a book about King Louis XIV. I know what you are thinking, What? But that is the odd thing about me. I love history and I love learning more about my French history. So here is the book I am currently diving head first in. Don’t worry a more exciting book will be posted soon.

King Louis XIV: A Life From Beginning to End by [History, Hourly]

He was born on September 5th, 1638 in the French lap of luxury otherwise known as the “Chateau de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.” This extravagant palace of French excess is located about 12 miles west of Paris. His birth name, “Louis-Dieudonne,” is French for, literally, “Gift for God.” This belief of divine right, initially inspired by his mother Queen Anne, would be a powerful theme throughout Louis XIV’s life.

It is that time again! Time for me to tell you about a book I am reading.

This one is a bit on the spooky side but it is so worth the thrill!

Currently I am reading “The 7th Woman.”

There’s no rest for Paris’s top criminal investigation division, La Crim’. Who is preying on women in the French capital? How can he kill again and again without leaving any clues? A serial killer is taking pleasure in a macabre ritual that leaves the police on tenterhooks. Chief of Police Nico Sirsky–a super cop with a modern-day real life, including an ex-wife, a teenage son and a budding love story–races against the clock to solve the murders as they get closer and closer to his inner circle. Will he resist the pressure? The story goes behind the scenes with the French police and into the coroner’s office, with the suspense of Seven, with CSI-like details. Winner of France’s most prestigious crime fiction award; named Best Crime Fiction Novel of the Year; and already an international bestseller with over 150,000 copies sold. So.

I’ve been on a romantic kick, and in that journey I have discovered some really good books. One of the books that I just feel for was this little Gem. “Blackwood.” If you are ready for a dark romance, I suggest this one!

Blackwood-Amazon

Blackwood-Barnes and Noble

I dig. It’s what I do. I’ll literally use a shovel to answer a question. Some answers, though, have been buried too deep for too long. But I’ll find those, too. And I know where to dig—the Blackwood Estate on the edge of the Mississippi Delta. Garrett Blackwood is the only thing standing between me and the truth. A broken man—one with desires that dance in the darkest part of my soul—he’s either my savior or my enemy. I’ll dig until I find all his secrets. Then I’ll run so he never finds mine. The only problem? He likes it when I run. Author’s Note: This is a mystery/suspense romance with violence and explicit/intense sex. If you need a trigger warning, then this isn’t the book for you.

Every since I picked up “Slip of the Tongue” I became an instant fan of Jessica Hawkins. This book is so sweet, and heartbreaking that I simply can not go another moment without telling you to READ THIS BOOK!

514khyj8vFL.jpgIt was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken…no matter how hard we tried.

I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.

So, lately for some reason I have been interested in some freaky books. My latest gem is

Into the Light by Aleatha Roming-Amazon

Into the Light -B&N

Into the Light (The Light Series Book 1) by [Romig, Aleatha]my goodness this book made me sit bolt right in bed! The ending was a bit of a shocker! One that I NEVER SAW COMING. I am sure someone else has written their story in the same way but for me this story was original.

Be sure to check it out!

Sara Adams awakes blind, unable to remember the most basic details of her life, but her darkness seems a blessing when she discovers the terrors of The Light.

Stella Montgomery investigates the news from the mean streets of Detroit, where she’s noticed a disturbing trend: young women are vanishing. When her best friend disappears, Stella digs for answers—despite warnings from her police detective boyfriend—following a twisted trail that leads her through the city’s most dangerous and forsaken precincts. There she uncovers something more sinister than she could have imagined: a shadowy organization known as The Light, led by the enigmatic Father Gabriel.

As Sara struggles to understand her place in the strange world she’s awakened to—an oppressive cult demanding unquestioning obedience—and her feelings for Jacob, the husband she can’t recall and whose harsh and tender attentions confuse and beguile her, Stella risks all to discover the truth. But enlightenment always comes with a price…

Oh and make sure you add the second book right away, cause you will want to know the answers!!! (WARNING SPOILERS MAYBE BELOW!!!)

Away from the Dark-Amazon

Away from the Dark-B&N

Away from the Dark (The Light Series Book 2) by [Romig, Aleatha]

Nine months ago, Sara Adams awoke with no memory. The man holding her hand told her she’s a member of The Light, a tight-knit religious group led by the terrifying and charismatic Father Gabriel. As a woman in the community of The Light, her duty is to be unquestionably obedient and to submit to the will of her husband.

But as Sara’s memory starts to return and she remembers her past, she sees that everything she’s been told is a lie. The Light is an insidious and dangerous organization, and its corrupting influence reaches well beyond the confines of the remote campus where Sara is being held.

With everything at stake, Sara struggles to sort out her true memories from her indoctrination. The desire to escape consumes her, but who can she trust? And which other followers of The Light were forced into this life, brainwashed to believe they belonged? The more she remembers, the more it becomes clear that Jacob, the man who calls himself her husband, is keeping shattering secrets of his own.

The Vampire, The Hunter, and the Girl

You really can find jewels online! I was happy to find this little book on Instagram. Don’t believe me click here! I just started this book. (today) and to be honest I am already impressed. The writing is wonderful. The characters are already starting to grow on me and I literally can not wait to read more! I’ll let you know once I’m finished, but really you should check it out on your own. Especially, since it is FREE right now!

Adam and Jesus (the vampire and the hunter) have an innate antagonism, which is only heightened once they discover they’re competing for the affections of the same girl. Olivia (the girl) is an aspiring author struggling to write a vampire novel. What none of them yet know is there’s a menacing force looming that will change the course of their lives forever. With the first installment of The Vampire and the Hunter Trilogy, Martin Lastrapes has created a vampire tale that is scary, funny, thrilling, and satisfying to the very last drop.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book. The moment I started reading this book I was hooked! And that is somewhat of a miracle. Not many books grab me right off the bat, but when they do they instantly become a favorite. Check out the description below and sound off in the comments if you are gonna pick this up! Or let me know what you are reading.

Inception, By Bianca Scardoni.

Inception (The Marked Book 1) by [Scardoni, Bianca]

Be careful who you trust, for even the Devil was once an Angel.

My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I have a secret. I know vampires are real. I watched one murder my father eight months ago, and even though they tried to convince me it didn’t happen—that I’d lost touch with reality due to the trauma, I know what I saw was real.

Hollow Hills is now the place I call home. It was supposed to be my chance at a normal life. My chance to bury my secret and start over. But everyone around me is keeping their own secrets, whispering lies into my ears like promises, and one of them is about to turn my entire world upside down.

I thought I had it all figured out. I thought I had the answers. I thought I knew who I was. The truth is, I didn’t even know the half of it. There’s a reason these vampires are still after me. There’s a reason they will always hunt me. Because I’m not human.

I’m the devil they fear and the angel they crave.
Only problem is, I don’t know it yet.

Sooooo….I wanted to read a book that was going to give me some inspiration for a supernatural piece that I am working. In my research, I stumbled upon “Dark Secrets”. And, well. Personally, the main character is an ANNOYING cry baby who makes Bella Swan look like Lisbeth Salander from “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”! But  the writing is good, and the story flows pretty quick. So, I am not saying to not give it a try. After all just cause I am having a hard time liking it, you may love it!
